Do you want to participate in a research project in Spain? If you have been offered a research project in Spain, you can get a visa to live and work in Spain, developing a research activity in a university, business entity or R&D centre or research body in Spain.

You can apply for two types of residence permits:

  • a) Researcher visa for EU research, with which you can enter, live and conduct research in Spain or another EU state.
  • b) Researcher visa for national research.

  • • It will be valid for up to 3 years, renewable for 2 more years.
  • • Upon completion of the research project, a job search visa may be applied for, valid for up to 12 months.

Requirements

    • You must have a PhD or higher qualification that allows you to access to PhD programmes.

  • • Have a hosting agreement, employment contract or a document linking the researcher to the research entity (university, R&D centre, etc.)
  • • You can apply for a visa from your home country or a residence permit if you are in Spain legally.
  • • Joint application of the employee and their relatives. A researcher visa allows you to bring your family, whether spouse or civil partner, minor or adult children, who financially depend on you and your dependent parents.
